Election Commission legitimizes Chair Mishra-led Bibeksheel Sajha Party

The election body approves the party's recent amendment to statute

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has given the legitimacy to Chair Rabindra Mishra led faction of Bibeksheel Sajha Party.

A meeting of the Central Committee chaired by Mishra had recently amended the party statute and established a 124-member Central Committee and sent a letter to the EC to update information. The EC approved the letter sent by the party.

The amended statute of Bibeksheel takes stance of abolishing federalism and holding a referendum on secularism, a concept proposed by Chair Mishra, and curtails rights of the party’s Coordinator Milan Pandey.

Previously, the statute adopted when Bibekheel and Sajha parties merged provisioned for the consensus between party’s coordinator and chairman to convene Central Committee meeting. With the amended and EC-approved statute, now Chairman of the party can convene Central Committee meeting without consent of party coordinator.
