Death toll from Parbat landslides climbs to 11



PARBAT: The death toll from landslides in different parts of Parbat district has climbed to 11.

Eleven people, including five members of a same family, have been killed in landslides in Durlung, Pakuwa, Silmi of Kusma Municipality and Modi rural municipality.

Madhav Sharma, a local of Kushma municipality-3, died after his house was buried by a landslide. Other victims in the family include Sharma’s mother Kaushila Paudel, wife Bhagawati, 35, two daughters – Bimala, 16, and Binita, 11, and son Binod, 9, said District Police Office, Parbat.

Similarly, other killed in the disaster include Durga Paudel, 11, her 11-year-old son Ganesh.  Originally from Modi rural municipality-7, they had come to Kushma-11, when the incident took place.

Likewise, the landslide that occurred at Pakuwa Talche in Kushma-11, killed Maya Kumari Paudel, 40, her three-year-old son Prayush and grandmother Dalli Paudel, 70.

Similarly, Phulmaya Thapa, 50, of Modi rural municipality, 5, died after a landslide coming from above buried her house.

All the dead bodies have been taken to Parbat Hospital for postmortem, informed DSP Shiva Raj Joshi. Dozen houses have been damaged in the other parts of the district.

Meanwhile, Parbat Road section of the Mid-Hill highway has been disrupted due to landslides in various places, said DPO, Parbat.
