NEA’s Managing Director Shakya ready to cooperate if offered decent post

Says will knock SC if sacked from the post

KATHMANDU: The Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Hitendra Dev Shakya has hinted that he is ready to cooperate with the government’s plan to get new head in NEA provided he is offered a decent post.

Speaking at a press conference at a hotel in Jamal on Wednesday, Shakya ruled the rumors that he has been asked to vacate the post by Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal and said that he has not faced such a directive or request.

However, he told the reporters that he is ready to get a new role if the government decides so.

Yet, Shakya warned he would launch a legal battle if the government removed him without assigning him any decent role.

There had been reports that the government was removing Shakya from the chief executive position of NEA as Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba wanted to bring back his predecessor Kul Man Ghising to the role.

Ghising, who served the government-run power distribution monopoly for four years, had retired in September 2020 after the KP Oli-led government did not reappoint him despite a wide demand. Ghising is credited for ending the 18 hours-long daily power outage in the country.
