Scheduled July flights from Kathmandu to Narita, Japan, canceled

KATHMANDU: A scheduled flight from Kathmandu to Narita, Japan, has canceled.

Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) issued a notice on its website Friday stating that the Narita flight has been canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

According to a senior NAC official, there is currently a provision to carry only 60 passengers per flight to Narita, Japan. Due to the same provision, NAC has not been able to operate its flights to longest destinations. The flight can be profitable only by carrying 80 percent passengers of the total capacity.

The government had been preparing to operate one weekly flight to Narita (every Friday) for the month of July. At present, a total of 23 weekly flights are allowed to 14 destinations.
