Seven houses displaced after landslide risk



KATHMANDU: A house has been damaged and seven households left the settlement owing to the risk of landslides at Milijulitole of Shuklagandaki Municipality-8 in Tanahun district. A house belonging to Chitra Maya Baniya is completely buried in a landslide while others are at imminent risk.

According to Ward Chair Krishna Prasad Regmi, the family of Baniya has been shifted to a safer zone. He added that the houses of Im Bahdur Baniya, Tuk Bahadur Shrestha, Shiva Kumari Shrestha, Shanti Thapa, Dil Bahadur Khatri and Kavita Bhattarai are at high risks of possible landslides. The landslides have swept away the fertile lands at Dahare, Chanute, Lalim and surrounding area in the district.

Meanwhile, a house of local Prem Bahadur Bhujel at Bhanu Municipality-10 has been buried in landslide. Foodgrains and cattle also perished in the disaster.

In addition, the electricity supply has been disrupted in different places forcing 8,000 households in darkness. The electric poles were pulled down by the landslides.

According to chief of the power distribution center here Sovit Bahdur Chhetri, electricity was disrupted at Vyas and Bhanu Municipalities and Bandipur Rural Municipality.
