Nepali Embassy refutes Daily Mail’s report on Nepal variant

LONDON: Nepali Embassy in London has  taken strong exception to the news report recently published by the Daily Mail on the new COVID variant in Nepal.

The Dailymail had reported that Britons’ holidays could be under threat due to the new mutant strain of COVID-19 recently detected in Nepal.

Reacting to the news, the Nepali Embassy in its statement has said that the news is baseless and misleading arguing that the Alpha (B.1.1.7) and Delta (B.1.617.2) variants reportedly detected in Nepal were not originated here in the country.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has also rebutted the news  on the new variant saying that it was not originated in Nepal.

The Embassy has alo sent a letter to the Dailymail urging the latter to recity the news saying that the news is baseless.

Posting a twitter message on Thursday, the WHO said out of three variants of SARS-Cov-2 detected, only Delta has been found in Nepal. Other new variants have not been detected in the country so far.
