UML’s Nepal-Khanal faction to mount pressure for party unity

Mulls resigning en-masse if Chairman Oli is adamant

KATHMANDU: Contrary to many people’s speculations, the Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal faction of ruling CPN-UML has decided to urge Prime Minister and party Chairman KP Oli to be more liberal and inclusive to keep the party a single block.

A Standing Committee (SC) meeting of the disgruntled faction held in Kathmandu Tuesday decided to go soft against Chairman Oli if the latter turned liberal.

PM Oli has announced to take a vote of confidence in the parliament on May 10. It was speculated that many disgruntled lawmakers of Nepal-Khanal faction could cross the floor during the trust vote for PM Oli.

A lawmaker close to the faction informed that the meeting has been mulling over other options like resigning en-masse if their concern was not addressed by PM Oli faction.

Provided the disgruntled faction resigns en-masse, all UML-led province and federal governments will collapse giving the key to form new government to other parties, including Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Center.
