KATHMANDU: With the number of deaths from COVID-19 increasing in the country, Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) has arranged a temporary crematorium on the bank of the Bagmati River.
Talking to Khabarhub, Pradeep Dhakal, the member secretary at the PADT, said a temporary arrangement has been made to cremate dead bodies of COVID-19 victims on the bank of the Bagmati River.
This temporary crematorium has been arranged to cope with the increasing number of deaths from COVID-19, according to Dhakal.
Currently, there are three electric machines in the electric crematorium on the premises of Pashupati area which can cremate 30 to 35 dead bodies a day. Now-a-days 35 to 40 dead bodies (of the people who have died from the pandemic) are brought in a single day for cremation.
Hence, this temporary arrangement has been made, said Dhakal. An electric machine can cremate only 12 dead bodies a day to the maximum.
The PADT can create maximum 100 dead bodies through both the electric crematorium and makeshift crematorium, according to Dhakal.
Seven dead bodies were cremated on the temporary crematorium set up on the bank of the Bagmati River this morning alone.
The Nepal Army has been cremating the dead bodies in coordination with the PADT.
