PM Oli dismisses allegations of being an anti-Madhesh leader

SINDHULI: Prime Minister KP Oli has said even if people stopped him from entering Madhesh branding him as an anti-Madhesh leader, people should allow the water to be supplied by the Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Multipurpose Project (SMDMP).

Speaking during the foundation laying ceremony of the project at Kusumtar of Sindhuli Thursday, he said that he wanted to convey a message through Chief Minister of Province 2 Lalbabu Raut to Madhesh that he would continue to supply water to the plain land even if people barred entry to him to Madhesh.

“I remember some people branded me as an anti-Madhesh leader. They even said they would bar me from entering the Madhesh. Despite this, I am sending water to the plains for irrigation,” PM Oli said.

The Prime Minister also said that the project would connect the hill and Terai region of the country stating that it would irrigate 85,000 bighas of land and generate 31 megawatts of electricity.

He reiterated that he was not an anti-Madhesh leader.

Stating that another project of Sunkoshi Kamala Diversion will also be constructed after this project, he said, “The project irrigates about 170,000 bighas of land in Dhanusha, Siraha and Saptari districts.”
