KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has reiterated that his party would not allow the House of Representatives (HoR) to function unless its disciplinary action against defecting lawmakers, who are now in Madhav Kumar Nepal-led CPN (Unified Socialist), is validated by the Speaker and the parliament.

Assuming office at the party office in Thapathali, Kathmandu, on Friday afternoon, UML Chair Oli said that the UML would not allow the parliament to function if the expelled lawmakers attend the House. “How can the parliament function if we keep the expelled people inside the parliament?” the UML Chairman asked.

Chairman Oli accused Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota of hatching conspiracy for UML split.

The government has convened a parliamentary session on Thursday after issuing six ordinances on Wednesday.

On the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, President Bidya Devi Bhandari convened a session of both the Houses on December 14 at 2 pm.

The government had ended the parliamentary session on October 29 without addressing the UML demand of validating the party’s action against the defecting lawmakers. The parliament had not been able to function well due to the obstruction of the main opposition party.

Oli accused the government of going the wrong way. He was of the view that the country should move to a fresh mandate as soon as possible as the country was not ruled well by the coalition government.

The UML Chair held the five parties of ruling alliance responsible for the ongoing crisis in the judiciary.
