SC hearing on nine habeas corpus cases Wednesday

KATHMANDU:  Despite the ongoing agitation and sit-in of judges and Nepal Bar officials demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana,  the Chief Justice has assigned nine habeas corpus writ petitions to different benches for Wednesday.

According to SC sources, the judges and lawyers, who were adamant not to look into other issues until the Chief Justice resigned, agreed not to adjourn the benches on legal remedies related to habeas corpus and other fundamental rights.

Nine separate writ petitions have been assigned to different benches of 15 judges.

In the meantime, the Nepal Bar Association staged a protest in front of the Supreme Court on Wednesday morning as well.
