PM Deuba challenges UML leader Basnet to win NC candidate in Bhaktapur

BHAKTAPUR: Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has challenged CPN-UML leader Mahesh Basnet to prove his guts by defeating NC in Bhaktapur.

Speaking at an inauguration of the party’s Ward Committee Conference in Katunje, Bhaktapur on Friday, NC President Deuba claimed that the party has become stronger in Bhaktapur now and would surely get victory in the next election.

Earlier, irate at NC President Deuba’s success at becoming the Prime Minister dethroning then Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chair KP Oli, Mahesh Basnet had challenged PM Deuba to contest from Bhaktapur.

Basnet had claimed the PM would lose the election from Bhaktapur if he contested from there.

Responding to Basnet’s statement, Deuba said, “I need not contest from here. Bhaktapur party president Durlav Thapa is enough to defeat UML. Show it by defeating Durlavji.”

Deuba also claimed that he would make the NC the first party in the upcoming elections.
