No-confidence motion filed against Lumbini CM Pokhrel

BUTWAL: The opposition coalition in Lumbini has filed a no-confidence motion against Province Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel on Tuesday.

According to Nepali Congress (NC) Chief Whip in the province, Fakhruddin Khan, the opposition alliance has filed a no-confidence motion in the Province Assembly Secretariat.

The opposition alliance comprising NC, CPN-Maoist Center, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha has been claiming that CM Pokhrel does not have majority to hold the government any more.

In the 80-member province assembly in Lumbini, the ruling CPN-UML has got 38 lawmakers. Although erstwhile Nepal Communist Party lawmaker Bimala Kumari Khatri Oli had formerly chosen Maoist-Center after the March 7 verdict of Supreme Court, she has now joined UML.

However, province assembly has not updated her latest move.

In the opposition alliance, NC has 19, Maoist Center 18, JSP three and Janamorcha one lawmaker to claim for new government.

According to NC Chief Whip Khan, 34 lawmakers have signed the no-confidence motion registered at the Province Assembly Secretariat on Tuesday.
