KATHMANDU: With the preparation for the Nepali Congress (NC) general convention taking momentum, party President Sher Bahadur Deuba has intensified talks with the leaders close to him.

The day after NC officials agreed to settle the dispute related to the distribution of the active membership in the party, President Deuba has called the meeting of the leaders close to him on Saturday.

With the schedule of general convention coming closer, Deuba has tried to ensure the support from his Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi.

According to sources, Nidhi, who was seen distancing himself from President Deuba after the latter’s willingness to contest for the post of President again, has joined Deuba close leader’s meeting in Budhanilkantha on Saturday.

Nidhi has declared that he will be vying for the post of party President in the forth-coming convention.

With Ram Chandra Poudel led faction of NC alleging President Deuba camp has been distributing the active membership haphazardly, the distribution and renewal of active membership in the party was adversely affected in many districts.

According to sources, in addition to Vice President Nidhi, Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar, General Secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka, Joint General Secretary Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, Ramesh Lekhak and other leaders are holding discussion on various political issues including the party’s preparation for the forthcoming general convention.
