FIFA World Cup Qualifier: Nepal to face Chinese Taipei tonight

KATHMANDU: Nepal is playing against Chinese Taipei tonight under the second round of qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 Asia Cup.

Tonight’s match is being held at 9:45 pm at Kuwait City ground in Kuwait.

Nepal has so far played with Taipei in two matches. Nepal defeated the Taipei team in the first match while the second match ended in a draw.

Nepal stands at 171st position while Taipei is in 141st position in FIFA’s ranking.

Although Nepal has lost the possibility of entering in the third round of the 2020 FIFA World Cup, today’s match could be crucial for Nepal to progress into the third round of the Asian Cup provided Nepal emerges a winner.
Nepal which is currently sitting fourth in its group ‘ B’ could progress into the third round of the Asian Cup to be held in China in 2023.

In the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifier, Nepal has clinched victory in only one match while the Nepali team has conceded defeat in the four other matches.

Nepal will play Jordon on June 7 while it will face Australia on June 11, according to the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA).

Nepali team comprises Kiran Chemjong (goal keeper), Bishal Sunar, Deep Karki, Rohit Chand, Ananta Tamang, Dinesh Rajbanshi, Gautam Shrestha, Suman Aryal and Bikash Khawas, Bisha Rai, Manish Dangi, Erik Bista, Kamal Thapa, Santosh Tamang, Suman Lama, Sunil Bal, Suraj Jeu Thakuri, Pujan Uparkoti, Aayush Ghalan, Abhisekh Rijal, Anjan Bista, Nawayug Shrestha and Ashish Lama. Abdullah Almutairi is the coach of the Nepali team.
