Sudurpaschim Province Assembly to start its budget session from June 4

DHANGADI: The Sudurpaschim Province Government has decided to propose to call the Province Assembly’s budget session from upcoming June 4 at 3 pm.

The meeting of the council of ministers of the provincial government today decided to recommend calling of the budget session on that day, informed Minister of Internal Affairs and Law Purna Joshi.

The budget session this year has been called slightly late due to the internal conflict and dispute in the ruling CPN-UML. The unprecedented challenge to respond to the second wave of COVID-19 also contributed to shifting the government’s focus from calling the budget session to respond to the pandemic.

Chief Minister Trilochan Bhatta recently formed the council of ministers following the interparty dispute in the Province.

Meanwhile, Lumbini Province’s Province Assembly has commenced its budget session from Wednesday onwards. Instead of voicing opinions about the proposed budget for the province, many of the province assembly members have raised questions about the reappointment of the Province’s Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel, and confidence in the provincial government.

Stating that the provincial government had achieved very little amid the challenges, former Minister and province assembly member Lila Giri said that the government was focused on the formulation of laws in the formative years of the government.

Giri claimed that the provincial government was formed on the basis of the majority and was formed in line with Article 68(1) of the constitution of Nepal.

Similarly, Nepali Congress’s chief whip Fakruddin Khan blamed that the appointment of chief minister was conducted bypassing the statute and rules of procedure. He urged the Chief Minister to seek a vote of confidence first.
