KATHMANDU: The national census program has been postponed for the time being.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology and Government Spokesperson Parbat Gurung said that the census program scheduled to be conducted from June 8 to June 22 has been postponed for some time due to the surge in the coronavirus cases.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Saturday decided to postpone the census for the time being.

Minister Gurung said that the date will be fixed again after the control of the coronavirus pandemic.

A total of 43,000 enumerators will be deployed across the country for the 12th census.

Necessary training for enumerators and supervisors was underway. A census is being conducted in Nepal every 10 years.
