Leaders need not worry or fear about party conventions: NC Gen Secy Koirala

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Dr. Shashank Koirala has urged leaders of the establishment faction of the party not to be afraid or nervous of the party’s conventions at various levels.

Addressing the inauguration of Gandaki Province convention in Pokhara Thursday, leader Koirala asked leaders not to be intimidated as the party was electing new leadership to drive the NC forward and said that the party convention was a normal phenomenon for the same.

Leaders and cadres close to the NC’s non-establishment faction had protested during the inaugural session of the province convention saying that only candidates representing the establishement faction were given opportunity to address the program. Following the protest, candidates close to senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel were also given opportunity to addess the event.

NC General Secretary Dr. Koirala also spoke in the aftermath of the commotion. In his address he urged the establishment faction to keep calm and contest the convention.

Recalling the history and accomplishments of the NC under capable leaders, he viewed that factionalism within the party had led to the party’s humiliating defeat in the last general election.

General Secretary Koirala also said the county’s overall development was largely due to his party’s initiatives and contributions.
