NC leader Shahi stakes claim for Chief Minister in Karnali Province



KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) provincial parliamentary party (PP) leader Jeevan Bahadur Shahi has submitted his claim for the post of Chief Minister in Karnali Province.

Karnali Chief Govinda Prasad Kaluni had given until 7:30 pm Tuesday to stake claim for the formation of a new government following the resignation of CM Mahendra Bahadur Shahi on Monday.

Shahi staked the claim with the support of 21 lawmakers, comprising six of NC, 13 of Maoist Center and three of CPN-Unified Socialist, on Tuesday. Currently, Karnali Provincial Assembly (PA) has only 35 lawmakers out of the total 40. Five posts of PA member are vacant.

The Office of the Province Chief is preparing to swear in Shahi after 8 pm as his claim fulfills the requirement of majority of PA members.
