PM Deuba holding meeting with his Indian counterpart Modi today



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, who is currently in Glasgow in Scotland to attend the World Leaders’ Summit of the 26th Conference of Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is holding a formal meeting with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi today.

Prime Minister Deuba will hold bilateral talks with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, Sri Lankan President as well as the officials of the World Bank and IMF on the sidelines of the conference today.

Prime Minister Deuba and Indian PM Modi held informal meetings with distinguished leaders including Indian Prime Minister Modi, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, UN General Secretary Antonio Guterres among others on the sidelines of the World Leaders’ Summit yesterday.

Addressing the World Leaders’ Summit on Monday, Deuba urged world leaders to recognize the specific climate vulnerability of the high Mountains and accord high priority to the mountain agenda in all climate-related negotiations.

“Around 80% of Nepal’s population is at risk from natural and climate-induced hazards. During the last 40 years, natural disasters have caused close to 6 billion USD physical and economic damages in my country alone,” the Prime Minister said. He stated that the COP26 must ensure adequate adaptation support for the most vulnerable countries like Nepal by scaling up financial, technological and capacity-building support.

Prime Minister Deuba who reached London on Friday evening in course of attending the global conference held meetings with the office-bearers of different organizations during his stay there on Saturday and Sunday.

PM Deuba reached Glasgow via Edinburg of Scotland from London on Sunday evening. The COP-26 that kicked off in Glasgow on October 31 is concluding on November 12.
