KATHMANDU: CPN-UML lawmaker Komal Oli has raised serious concern over the government’s apathetic attitude in bringing the facts to the fore about the ‘tuin’ incident in Mahakali River.

Speaking at the National Assembly on Monday, Oli said merely forming a committee of inquiry will not suffice. “The government should have the guts to talk to India on the issue,” she said.

It should be noted that a Nepali youth who was crossing the Mahakali River has been missing when Indian security forces reportedly cut the ‘tuin’ in Darchula district.

“I have doubts that the government would hold talk with India on this issue,” she said asking Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand sarcastically, “Or, will the government try to create a ‘comfortable’ situation to India?”

It may be recalled that Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda had in an interview said that they would form a government that is ‘comfortable’ to India.

According to Inspector Narendra Chand, District Police Office, Darchula, 30-year-old Jay Singh Dhami went missing in Mahakali while crossing the tuin via India on Friday morning.

According to the locals, Dhami fell into the river after being pulled by a wire when the Indian SSB threatened to open the cable.

“Five or six locals were on their way to the market to fetch goods from the market. Three of them crossed the river from tuin. SSB reached there when they were crossing,” Janak Dhami, who had been with Jay Singh, said, adding, “While he was trying to take out the cable, water pushed him away along with the cable he was taking off.”
