NC to reject nine ordinances tabled in the National Assembly

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to reject the ordinances the government has tabled in the National Assembly on July 1.

NC parliamentary party (PP) meeting held in Kathmandu on Friday decided to stand against nine ordinances forwarded by Prime Minister KP Oli’s government.

According to NC sources, the party has sent the notice about its decision to the General Secretary of the Federal Parliamentary Secretariat and the Secretary of the national Assembly.

“As per Rule 89 of National Assembly Regulations, 2018, NC notifies that the PP has decided to reject the ordinances tabled at the House on July 1,” NC letter submitted to the parliament secretariat reads.

The government tabled nine ordinances: the Economic Ordinance, Citizenship Ordinance, Railway Ordinance, Nepal Police and Province Police Ordinance, Investigation of Disappeared Persons, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Ordinance, Appropriation Ordinance, Oath Ordinance, Constitutional Council Ordinance and Social Security Ordinance on July 1.

NC lawmakers Radheshyam Adhikari, Anita Devkota, Prakash Panth and Independent lawmkaer Khimlal Devkota have jointly announced their decision to stand against those ordinances.

Devkota has not signed only on the ordinance on citizenship.

Similarly, Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) lawmakers have also informed the Parliament Secretariat that they would reject seven ordinances tabled by the government.

According to JSP sources, the lawmakers Pramila Kumari, and Mrigendra Kumar Singh Yadav have informed the federal parliament secretariat and the National Assembly officials that they would stand against the Constitutional Council Ordinance, Oath Ordinance, Social Security Ordinance, Financial Ordinance, Railway Ordinance, Nepal Police and Province Police Ordinance and Appropriation Ordinance.
