KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Gagan Kumar Thapa has criticized the government for its insensitiveness towards the natural resources and the decision to export the river products rather than conserving them.

Commenting on the government’s programs through his social media Twitter on Wednesday, Thapa said that the stone and river products extraction program has shown how insensitive the government is to the environment and Churia region conservation.

“In the absence of a parliament, the unconstitutional government has illegally brought in a budget introduced through wrong means has proposed to reduce the trade deficit by extracting stones, ballast and sand from Nepal,” leader Thapa said, adding, “ It has become clear how insensitive the government is to the environment and Chure conservation.”

He has mentioned it as policy level corruption.

Saying that it shows the extent to which the government falls to show its loyalty to its ‘friends’, leader Thapa alleged that the government attempts lead to desertification of the Terai by destroying the Chure region.

He reminded that such attempts have been repeatedly blocked in the past even when they came in the parliamentary committee.

“This time too, we will stop this decision of the government. We, the people’s representatives, resist this regressive and suicidal program brought by the government ignoring the court order and repeated directives of the parliamentary committee and citizen’s warning,” NC leader Thapa said urging the general public, the media and the conscious civil society to resist it.
