Govt mulling water transportation in big rivers: Minister Nembang



KATHMANDU: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Basant Kumar Nembang, has said the government had forwarded the process to launch water transportation in the big rivers of the country.

Minister Nembang said this during a ministerial level virtual program organized by India on ‘Maritime India Summit 2021’ on Tuesday.

He shared that study was underway to conduct water transportation in the Karnali, Narayani, Kaligandaki and Koshi Rivers and connect India via water way too.

Government was active to implement in practice the agreement, treaty and the international commitment relating to water transportation.

“Nepal has been making efforts for long to conduct water transportation,” Minister Nembang said, reminding that Nepal had brought the Act on Operation of Ship way back in 1971. He further said the present government has given top priority to the water transportation.

Moreover, Minister Nembang argued that transportation is the basic infrastructures to ensure development and prosperity in the country.

The summit to continue for three days was inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. RSS
