NCP can only remove PM Oli from the post: Rajendra Mahato

KAILALI: Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) leader Rajendra Mahato has said that no party other than the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) can remove Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli from the post.

Speaking at a press conference held in Dhangadhi Tuesday, Mahato said that his party cannot remove the Prime MInister.

He ruled out the possibility of forming an alternative communist government until the NCP took a decision on the issue.

“Even with the Nepali Congress and the JSP, our majority is not enough. It is the NCP that will remove PM Oli from the post’, said Mahato.

Since PM Oli is still the party chairman and parliamentary party leader, possibilities of ousting him seem slim.

According to Mahato, there is no need for any discussion for an alternative government until the decision about NCP’s authenticity is finalized or is legally divided.

He said that there was a dearth of morality among the communist and NC leaders. “It’s not a matter of asking for resignation, it’s a matter of giving resignation. KP Oli would have resigned if he had morals.”

‘Government cannot keep Resham Chaudhary in jail’

Likewise, in another context, Mahato demanded the government to release JSP leader Resham Chaudhary from the jail.

He added, “If he is not released, the jail would be filled with people like him fighting for justice.”

Eight people, including a minor and a senior superintendent of police, were killed when violence erupted during the Tharuhat agitation in Tikapur, Kailali on August 24, 2015.

Chaudhary was sentenced to life imprisonment for being the mastermind of the incident.

While absconding after the incident, Chaudhary had won the election from Kailali Constituency No. 1 with an overwhelming majority. He is now in prison.
