KATHMANDU: It has come to light that a meeting of the Constitutional Council (CC) summoned by Prime Minister KP Oli for Wednesday was postponed because of refusal by Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher Rana to attend.

PM Oli had called the meeting after Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota sent back the recommendations made by the council for the parliamentary hearing of the officials recommended for the constitutional bodies.

A CC meeting on December 15 had decided to fill all vacancies lying in the constitutional bodies.

However, the council meeting was postponed due to CJ’s refusal to attend the meeting as he is currently hearing the case of House dissolution in which PM Oli is one of the defendants.

The government has already brought an ordinance by amending the Constitutional Council Act so that a decision can be made by a majority.

However, the quorum for the council meeting is not enough in the absence of CJ Rana, Speaker Sapkota, and leader of the opposition Sher Bahadur Deuba.
