KATHMANDU: The Prachanda-Nepal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is announcing a second stage of protest programs on Saturday.

The demonstration mobilization committee led by Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha will announce the second phase of protest programs amid a press meeting at 3 pm today, said leader Himal Sharma.

The Prachanda-Nepal faction has been irked after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli dissolved the House of Representatives (HoR). The disgruntled faction decided to hold a second phase of demonstration after the main opposition Nepali Congress hesitated to jointly hit the streets.

Oli and Deuba had reached an agreement that if HoR were not dissolved, they would run a coalition government and in case of dissolution, they would go for the mid-term polls by forming an electoral alliance with each other, according to sources.

The NC is in a mood to move ahead as per the verdict of the Supreme Court. Central Member of Nepali Congress Kalyan Gurung, however, said the NC will not ally with any factions. “The NC is now hitting the streets. We abide by the verdict of the SC and move accordingly without allying with any factions – be is demonstration or election,” clarified Gurung.

The upcoming demonstration of the Prachanda-Nepal will range from ward to municipality and province level to the center, said a member of the demonstration mobilization committee.

If done so, it will be helpful even if the country goes for the mid-term poll, argued the member.

The ruling NCP has been politically divided following the dissolution of the HoR. Both Oli and Prachanda-Nepal factions have reached the Election Commission claiming the legitimacy of the party.
