Actress Rekha Thapa to file candidacy for RPP General Secretary



KATHMANDU: Actress Rekha Thapa has decided to run for the post of General Secretary of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).

According to RPP sources, she is preparing to fight for the post of General Secretary at the RPP’s unity convention which started in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

Rekha, who is contesting from Kathmandu Constituency No. 4, has not formally spoken about it.

However, according to those close to her, Rekha is preparing to contest from Rajendra Lingden’s panel. Lingden, the only elected RPP lawmaker, had announced his candidature for the post last Thursday. Rekha was also present at the event.

Earlier, Rekha was close to Chairman Pashupati Shumsher Rana. Rana has announced he will not run for president. RPP which had got three chairpersons earlier is holding election for a single chairman this time.

Incumbent Chairman Kamal Thapa and General Secretary Rajendra Lingden have announced their candidacies for the post. Pashupati Shumsher Rana and Prakash Chandra Lohani have announced that they will not contest the election. The competition between Thapa and Lingden for the chairmanship has been decided.

According to the party’s constitution, the general convention will elect four vice chairmen including one woman and three general secretaries including one woman. Rekha is mulling over contesting as a woman general secretary. Dhawal Shumsher Rana has also offered candidature for the post of General Secretary Lingden’s panel.

On behalf of Kamal Thapa, Kunti Shahi and Bhuvan Pathak have announced their candidacies for the post.
