KATHMANDU: Chief Minister of Province 1 Bhim Acharya has resigned before the vote of confidence motion proceeded in the Provincial Assembly (PA) Monday.

Addressing the PA meeting on Monday, Chief Minister Acharya said, “I announce my resignation from the post of Chief Minister.”

He claimed that democracy was in danger due to political wrangling.

“All parties have no choice but to stand together, but the wrangling between political parties posed threat to the constitution and democracy,” he said, adding, “My government was plagued by instability since its formation but I have done a good job.”

He remarked that he wanted to resign earlier but did not do so for the sake of the people. Acharya was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Province 1 on August 26.
