KATHMANDU: CPN-UML leader Prabhu Sah has not attended the party’s Statue General Convention that kicked off at Sunrise Hall in Godavari Friday.

Sah, who joined the UML after defecting from the Maoist Center, put forth 8-point demand with the UML leadership. To discuss his demands, he met party Chair KP Oli and General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel on Thursday but could not reach an understanding. Leader Sah said he would not attend the convention as consensus could not be reached.

Sah has been saying that the current UML should be a continuation of the erstwhile Nepal Communist Party (NCP) that was formed through the merger of UML and Maoist Center. UML Chair Oli and other leaders agree with Sah in principle but it is not the case in practice.

The guiding principle of the NCP was People’s Democracy but the UML has given continuity to the ideology of People’s Multi-party Democracy.

Leaders Sah has been demanding for a new understanding within the party. However, leaders with Sah say the UML leaders were not yet ready to form new understanding.
