KATHMANDU: Despite having a potential solution to integrating youth entrepreneurs by energizing them, youth entrepreneurs complain that the environment is not conducive for businesses.

They have demanded that the government needs to support young entrepreneurs to reduce youth unemployment rate in the country.

The entrepreneurs also complained that despite announcing grants and subsidized loans, the government has not been able to provide facilities and live up with its assurances.

Taking part in Khabarhub Debate organized by Khabarhub at the Pavilion Hall Friday, they said they have not felt the state’s presence when it comes to supporting them.

Entrepreneur Rabin Adhikari complained that the consumption-based economy practiced in the country has been unfavorable.

“The bureaucratic hassles and lack of a conducive business environment have adversely discouraged young entrepreneurship in the country,” Adhikari said.

Entrepreneur Sachindra Pradhananga urged the government to create an environment that is conducive to doing business in the country.

Shanta Banskota Koirala, Director of Kanchanjangha Tea Estate, said the government should formulate a policy that would support young entrepreneurs.

“The tendency of looking down upon entrepreneurs has been discouraging,” she said adding that the government was least bothered in encouraging businessmen and start-ups.

Speaking on the occasion, former Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha said that the youth force has to be properly managed for the sake of the country’s development and prosperity, which the state has failed to do so.

Shrestha said the country also lacks mechanisms that help channelize the contribution of the youth to the national economy.

Given the situation, in which the young generation finds themselves, Shrestha suggested a package of interventions.

“There has to be an ideal model to deal with the needs of the entrepreneurs,” he said.

Former CJ Shrestha also discussed the bureaucratic hassles and other obstructions emphasizing the need for some sort of information and awareness creation.

According to him, young entrepreneurs need a way of exploring whether or not a self-employment is a sensible option.

Labeling the youth entrepreneurs as the country’s development engines, he stressed the need for transformative change, and inter-sectional collaboration aimed at poverty alleviation.

Economist Dr. Dadhi Adhikari emphasized production and productivity to ensure the country’s development.

“The produce should be salable,” he said, reinforcing the need to come up with innovative ideas, and entrepreneurship promotion.

Entrepreneur Lavsen Dahal complained about the bureaucratic hassles that young entrepreneurs have to undergo, and to start a business.

Entrepreneur Sachindra Pradhananga, too, concurred with previous speakers saying that they needed an environment that is conducive for businesses.

“There are challenges,” he said.
