With 14th Gen Convention just around the corner, election fever grips Bhaktapur

‘80% active members in favor of Durlav Thapa’

BHAKTAPUR: With the 14th General Convention of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) just around the corner, the convention fever has caught Bhaktapur district.

With two days to go before the ward level convention (on September 3), the lowest level convention of the party, incumbent District President Durlav Thapa appears to have a strong hold in the district level presidential election.

According to Nepali Congress District Party Office, former President Ganesh Man Chakradhar, Ashta Kumar Kabe, Kabir Rana, Babu Raja Joshi are in the election fray for the presidential post of the NC District Working Committee, including President Thapa this time.

Despite the number of presidential aspirants, NC Bhaktapur District is mustering efforts to hold the convention in consensus.

If the number of active members associated with the Nepal Tarun Dal (NTD) are anything to go by,

the candidate will turn the tables in his favor who can garner support of the NTD, say NC leaders.

Bhaktapur Tarun Dal President Raju Thapa has said that Durlav Thapa will get elected as the President of the Bhaktapur district this time, too.

Raju claims to have over 80 percent of votes of NTD active members in his favor. Hence, the NTD will play a decisive role in the presidential election in Bhaktapur district, said Raju.

The NTD has a strong organization from the ward level to the district with around 75 percent of active members in the district.

Raju has been saying that Drulav Thapa is sure to become the President in the upcoming general convention, too.

Similarly, the NC presidents of four municipalities of Bhaktapur district are also in favor of Durlav Thapa.
