President Bhandari designates Lieutenant General Sharma as acting CoAS



KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has appointed Lieutenant General Prabhuram Sharma as the acting Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) of the Nepal Army (NA) on the recommendation of the government.

President Bhandari appointed Lieutenant General Sharma as acting CoAS on Sunday, with effect from August 10, said the Office of the President.

The incumbent CoAS General Purna Chandra Thapa is retiring on September 10 and will stay on mandatory leave from August 10 for a month.

The Council of Ministers on July 27 recommended Lieutenant General Sharma to the post of acting CoAS. Sharma will automatically be promoted to CoAS on September 10.
