Thapa leaves behind his legacy of ideas, thoughts and activism

KATHMANDU: Ujjwal Thapa, the founder of Bibeksheel Nepali, long made his way deep into the hearts of Nepali youths through his innovative ideas, thoughts and activism for a wise citizenry and a better Nepal.

Generations of youths today are bereaved of the youth leader who initiated a social movement – Bibeksheel Nepali – that was unlike any other in Nepal before. He emerged as a beacon of hope in 2012 in the midst of never-ending frustration experienced by Nepalese youths regarding the state of political affairs of the country for long.

Thapa breathed his last at 4:25 pm Tuesday at Mediciti Hospital, in Lalitpur, battling the coronavirus infection. Social media had been flooded with prayers for Thapa’s recovery for the past few days after news regarding his health circulated in the media. Nevertheless those prayers will see to it that Thapa rests peacefully in heaven.

The country mourns the proponent of alternative political force that sought to empower youths to take charge of the state of affairs of the nation for good.

Thapa was the catalyst for change when he came forth with his ideas to challenge the status quo. Not everybody believed or embraced his ideas but the youths of the country did not waste a second to support Thapa and build on his strong conviction.

Back then nobody had imagined that Thapa’s brainchild would snowball into a full-fledged alternative force with a robust support from a promising youth population. Thapa, a IT graduate, returned to the country after living in the US for five years with his ideas and thoughts to influence the course of Nepali politics.
