Govt signs 6-point deal with Tharuhat/Tharuwan Struggle Committee

KATHMANDU: The government and the Tharuhat/Tharuwan Joint Struggle Committee have signed a six-point agreement Tuesday.

According to Rajan Bhattarai, advisor to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, a six-point agreement was reached.

As per the agreement, the case against Resham Chaudhary and others will be withdrawn and it has been agreed to take initiative for Chaudhary’s legal release. Also, the government has agreed to provide relief to the families of those martyred during the Tharuhat movement, look after them and to bear expenses of the treatment of injured.

Similarly, in the Tharu-speaking areas, it has been agreed to provide education up to primary level in mother tongue. In similar manner, it has agreed to reserve appropriate quotas for Tharus in all levels of state machinery.

The agreement is signed by Law Minister Lilanath Shrestha, Rajan Bhattarai, Bhagwati Chaudhary on behalf of the government and Rukmini Chaudhary, Premilal Chaudhary, Padmanarayan Chaudhary, Prabhat Chaudhary and Chandra Prasad Chaudhary on behalf of the Tharu Welfare Assembly.

The government had formed a talks team to hold talks with the Tharu Welfare Assembly on March 29.
