COVID variants found in Nepal named as ‘Delta’ and ‘Alpha’



KATHMANDU:The World Health Organization (WHO) has named COVID-19 variants detected in Nepal as ‘Delta’ and ‘Alpha’.

The Indian variant found in Nepal has been referred to as Delta and UK variant  has been described as ‘Alpha’.

The WHO has also named other variants found in other parts of the world, such as the name ‘Gama’ has been given to the virus found in Brazil and Beta to the one found in South Africa.

Similarly, the mutated virus found in India, of late, in India has been named as ‘Kappa’.

The organization said it has picked words from Greek language to name the variants of COVID-19.
