BAJHANG: Kalanga Hydropower Project, the largest under-construction hydropower project of Sudurpaschim Province, has reached the final stage of its construction.
So far, almost 90 per cent of the construction work has been completed, said the Project Chief Pushpa Chitrakar, adding that construction of the total 15 kilometers long tunnel and the powerhouse and pipe fitting was finished.
The project located at Bulung Municipality in the district is preparing to begin power generation in a month. Started from 2017, the project with approximately 10 billion in investment was expected to be completed within 2020.
However, tough geographical location, legal hurdles and cumbersome administrative process caused a delay in the project completion, said Chitrakar.
“Work on the tunnel at the 38.46 megawatts Upper Kalanga Hydropower Project is underway. Construction of the 15.33 megawatts Kalanga Hydropower Project is over now. We are at work to launch test production in one month,” said Chitrakar.
The project benefits local people in many ways. More than 350 local people could get job opportunities following the completion of the project, he said. RSS
