DOHA: The Kuwait government has extended the deadline for legalizing foreigners, including Nepalis, who have violated Kuwait’s housing laws.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kuwait has extended the period for foreign nationals who violated Kuwait’s residency laws to return home without being prosecuted or maintain their legal validity by following due procedure within the designated period.

According to Nepali Embassy in Kuwait, the deadline for maintain legal validity or leaving Kuwait for repatriation has been extended from February 1 to March 2 this year. Earlier, the deadline was set for January 31, 2021.

“The one month period has been extended in view of the current ‘extraordinary situation’ with the outbreak of the new coronavirus,” the embassy quoted the Interior Ministry of Kuwait’s explanation for the extension.

According to the Ministry, Nepali and foreign nationals violating the residency law within the extended period will be fined according to the Kuwait laws and such people will not be able to obtain a residence visa and will be deported to their home countries.
