KATHMANDU: The Prachanda-Nepal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has demanded to immediately summon the meeting of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly.

The meeting of the provincial assembly slated for Monday was expected to discuss the no-confidence motion filed against Chief Minister Dormani Poudel who represents the PM KP Oli faction.

The Parliament Secretariat has adjourned the meeting till February 17.

The Prachanda-Nepal faction has accused the speaker of being a helpless shadow of the government.

“It is clear that the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly has become a helpless shadow of the minority government in a gross violation of parliamentary values, norms, constitutional provisions and rules of procedure of the Provincial Assembly,” said a statement issued by Astalaxmi Shakya on behalf of the Parliamentary Party leader of the faction.

The faction has demanded immediate summoning of the meeting so that the assembly proceeds with the no-confidence motion.

Lawmaker Arun Nepal on January 22 had tabled the no-confidence motion in the provincial assembly meeting with the signatures of 45 lawmakers arguing that CM Poudel could not live up to the expectations of the people.

Poudel has proposed Shakya as the next Chief Minister of Bagmati Province.
