KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City has started the construction of a portable steel overhead bridge at Chabahil Chowk in Kathmandu for the convenience of the pedestrians. The bridge is going to be constructed at the cost of Rs 8.266 million.
The KMC had already signed the agreement with the construction company- Kanchhaman Construction Service on November 13, 2019, in this connection.
As per the agreement, the construction of the 23 meters long and two meters wide bridge should be completed within July 11, 2020.
KMC mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya laid the foundation stone for the bridge on Thursday. Mayor Shakya said that the KMC would construct other overhead bridges gradually at the places with a high flow of pedestrians for their safety and to make the movement of city vehicles smooth.
Similarly, the KMC is to construct overhead bridges at Jaybageshwori and Maitighar within the current fiscal year. The KMC has allocated Rs 50 million for the construction of overhead bridges this year.
There are altogether 30 sky bridges in the Kathmandu Valley.
