KATHMANDU: As many as 100 people including 50 inmates and 50 security personnel have tested positive for coronavirus in Sundhara-based central jail.

COVID-19 infection spread to the oldest prison of the country despite high alertness, said the prison management committee.

Chief of Central Jail, Sundhara Laxmi Baskota said a total of 100 individuals including 50 inmates and 50 security personnel have been infected with the coronavirus. However, most of them have not shown COVID-19 symptoms.

“Two among those infected recovered within a week. Those who showed symptoms have been taken to hospitals and isolation centers and those who have no symptoms are being treated in the prison itself,” said Baskota.

A total of 3,263 inmates are serving their jail-term in the central jail.
