28 medics at Narayani Hospital test COVID-19 positive



KATHMANDU: Parsa has witnessed a sharp surge in coronavirus cases with scores of health workers working at the frontline of the outbreak infected of late.

Coronavirus has been confirmed in 28 health workers including doctors deployed at Narayani Hospital on Friday.

Medical Superintendent of Narayani Hospital Dr. Madan Upadhyaya said that out of 28 medics at the hospital, eight are doctors. Among them, two are physicians, four orthopedic surgeons, one surgeon and one medical officer, he added.

Likewise, six nursing staff, four paramedics, one ambulance driver, one administration staff, three office assistants and other sanitation staff have also contracted the coronavirus.

Dr. Upadhyaya said that the services of the hospital have been suspended after the coronavirus infection was confirmed in 28 employees of the hospital.

Lack of isolation beds

At present, 60 COVID-19 patients including six at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Dr. Upadhyaya stated that over 200 people currently under home isolation are being supervised by the hospital.

He added that there are no isolation beds left even for the hospital’s staff.
