KMC Mayor urges not to crowd up in festivals, processions

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has urged people to refrain from crowding while celebrating festivals and cultural processions in view of increasing outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

KMC Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya said since the coronavirus infection risk has increased in the Kathmandu Valley lately, and the festive season is in the threshold, the time and situation have been challenging for all people.

Mayor Shakya said that earlier Kathmanduites followed the lockdown order and helped make the Valley peaceful, adding that with the relaxation of lockdown, the inflow of people into the Valley has increased causing higher risks of pandemic outbreak.

“There is no alternative but to adopt stringent alert measures”, Shakya said adding that the situation of Kathmandu Valley would go worse if the Home Ministry did not take concrete measures to check the rampant inflow from outside.
