KATHMANDU: The government is considering bringing home Nepalis stranded in various labor destination countries due to the coronavirus.
Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security, Rameshwar Raya Yadav, says the government was studying the option of bringing the stranded Nepalis home.
Saying that this involves big amount of resources, Yadav said priority would be given to Nepalis who are sick and infirm.
He said over two million Nepali migrant workers are currently in the Gulf countries, Malaysia and other countries.
Therefore, he argued, requires a big amount of resources to bring a small percentage of this population to Nepal as well as to make arrangements for keeping them in quarantines and other facilities.
The government, he said, remains aware of the fact whether or not Nepal’s capacity will be adequate to handle the situation.
Minister Yadav also urged the Nepalis in those countries to stay safe wherever they are for the time-being.
He has also appealed to the individuals, associations and organizations of Nepalis abroad to provide humanitarian assistance to Nepali people stranded or in distress.
