COVID-19 test result in one hour



KATHMANDU: National Public Health Laboratory has informed that with a newly-arrived Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machine, it can produce corona test results in one hour.

After the arrival of five PCR machines from China, the doctors and medical workers are busy conducting coronavirus tests at the laboratory hope the work pressure at the only test center till Sunday would be less than before.

Dr. Runa Jha, the director of the national lab, said that with those machines they would be in the condition of executing the test of anyone and could also produce the result in one hour.

The PCR machine or DNA amplifier is actually a laboratory gadget most commonly used to amplify segments of DNA via the polymerase chain reaction, hence known as PCR. The device has a thermal block with holes where tubes holding the reaction mixtures can be inserted.

The government is planning to send five machines in four provinces.

The government has brought 30 thousand reagents with the PCR machine. One reagent can test a sample of one person.
