Foreign Minister Pradip Gyawali to visit India in December

KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Pradip Gyawali is visiting India for talks in the third week of December.

According to a high level government source, Prime Minister KP Oli is sending Gyawali to India as his special envoy.

Recently, Indian Foreign Secretary Harshvardhan Shringala, who was on a visit to Nepal, had extended a formal invitation to Minister Gyawali to visit India.

According to government sources, Minister Gyawali will hold meetings with high-ranking leaders including the President, Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister during his visit to India.

The main objective of his visit will be to continue the dialogue between Nepal and India and to take the existing disputes through dialogue to consensus.

Apart from this, during his visit to India, Minister Gyawali will also raise the issue of the report prepared by the Eminent Peoples’ Group (EPG).

Foreign Minister Gyawali’s visit to India is being discussed informally in the cabinet, government officials said.

Likewise, Nepali Foreign Minister Gyawali has “responded positively” to the invitation extended by Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla for the next month’s India-Nepal minister-level meeting in Delhi to “discuss the issues of mutual interest”, a Nepali official confirmed.

“FS Shringla extended the invitation to discuss the issues of mutual interest that will be beneficial for both the nations. The invitation has been extended for minister-level meeting for December.

Nepali Foreign Minister responded positively,” an official from the Nepal Foreign Ministry confirmed.
