Elephant found dead in community forest in Jhapa



JHAPA: An elephant was found dead at Panchpokhari Community Forest of Buddhashanti Rural Municipality-5 in Jhapa district on Friday.

The locals had informed the District Forest Office after they spotted the pachyderm dead in the afternoon. According to the District Forest Office (DFO), Jhapa’s Chief Bishnulal Ghimire, a team including veterinary doctor was sent to the incident site to bury the dead elephant.

Earlier, the veterinary doctors had tranquillized and treated an elephant which had gone blind in the district. The elephant had sustained injuries in its body inflicted by the locals while it entered the human settlement.

The team would also forward investigation to know the cause of the elephant’s death, according to the DFO, Jhapa.
