IPL2020: Kolkata faces defeat at the hands of Chennai



KATHMANDU: Kolkata Knight Riders has faced a defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings in an Indian Premier League held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Held in Dubai International Cricket Ground on Thursday night, Chennai defeated Kolkata by six wickets.

Chasing the 174-run target set by Kolkata, Chennai reached it in the allotted 20 overs losing four wickets.

Chennai’s RD Gaikwad top-scored with 72 runs including six fours and two sixes off 53 balls. AT Rayudu and RA Jadeja contributed 38 and 31 runs respectively.

Kolkata’s PJ Cummins and CV Varun took two wickets each of Chennai.

Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss, Kolkata had notched up 172 runs in 20 overs losing five wickets.

Kolkata’s N Rana made highest 87 runs including 10 fours and four sixes off 61 balls while Shubman Gill and KD Karthik contributed 26 and 21 balls respectively.

In reply, Chennai’s L Ngidi grabbed two wickets while MJ Santner, RA Jadeja and KV Sharma took one wicket each of Kolkata.

With this win, Chennai has notched up 10 points from 13 games. However, it is still at the bottom of the points table.

Kolkata has 12 points from 13 matches and is in the fifth position. With the defeat, Kolkata’s chance of reaching the play-off has been uncertain.
