Dashain this year sees drop in number of crimes



KATHMANDU: There has been a drop in the number of criminal activities across the country during the Dashain festival, said the police headquarters.

Slim mobility of people during the festival has added to the decrease in the criminal activities, said Senior Superintendent of Police Kuber Kadayat.

Four incidents of rape, 11 murder and 16 robbery cases took place across the country during the festival from October 23 to 27, according to police data.

Likewise, 334 road accidents occurred, wherein 43 lost their lives and 519 were injured, said Kadayat. Last year, 50 rape and 66 robbery cases took place in 15 days during the festival. Similarly, 700 road accidents occurred wherein 111 people were killed.

Two hundred ninety-four road accidents took place in the Kathmandu Valley during the festival this year in which nine were killed and 278 injured, said Chief of the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, Bhim Prasad Dhakal.

But in 15 days during the festival last year, the Valley recorded 400 road accidents, wherein 10 people died and 318 were injured, according to police data.
