Birgunj’s Mayor Sarawagi tests COVID-19 positive

KATHMANDU: Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City Vijay Kumar Sarawagi has been confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus.

The Mayor took to social media and said, “I have contracted coronavirus while I was continuously serving you (city dwellers). I am undergoing treatment.”

He also said that he would return to serve the city dwellers after overcoming the coronavirus infection.

He added that the infection has spread at the community level in Birgunj due to the failure to expand coronavirus testing.

Mayor Sarawagi had appealed to all the residents to exercise restraint and adhere to the standards set by the government of Nepal.
